THE VIEW FROM MY WORLD

A few weeks ago the Vatican came out with "new sins" and people I beleive are a little confused about this. Does that mean that the original 7 deadly sins no longer apply? Of course not, it's still wrong to lust, to sloth, etc. but notice the beauty of these "new sins" that it focuses on a social apect. We must understand that sin does not only affect us as individuals but it affects humanity as a whole. So as Christ told the woman that was caught in adultery let us follow those same words, "Go and sin no more!"

I think it's also important to point out that these are not "new sins" in the sense that they weren't sins before. That might confuse some people who may see it as the Church changing teaching on matters of faith and morals, which it doesn't do. Polluting and harming God's creation has always been a sin, as have things like taking drugs (because we're obligated to follow all just laws) and causing poverty and pretty much everything on the list. Even the new things that have only become possible in recent years have alway been immoral based on the nature of what they entail. So none of these are "new sins". They've always been sins, it's just they're being pointed out, clarified and emphasized at the moment. So yeah, that might be something to point out.
