Monday of Holy Week

Mary took a large quantity of expensive perfumed oil, and anointed Jesus’ feet. The crowds searched for him. Eyes and hearts and minds were fixed on him. Are yours? Is he your light and salvation today? Do you believe he can be? This week, holy above all others, fix your eyes on Jesus and declare . . .

“Jesus, you are my light! No more do I have to stumble through life in darkness, guessing what I should do or where I should go. You teach me your ways and show me your paths. You give me advice and wisdom to guide me. You reveal, in the depths of my being, what is pleasing to you, and what you want to heal and strengthen. You give me understanding to discern right from wrong.

“Jesus, you are my salvation! Without you, I was hopelessly ensnared in sin—lying, cheating, drinking, fighting, denying you. But in you I no longer need be controlled by the power of sin. Your death cancelled Satan’s hold on me. When I wasn’t even looking for you, you found me. When I sat in despair and fear, you stretched out your hand and gathered me safe in your arms.
“Jesus, you are my refuge! You help me when I am in trouble. you give me rest when the battle becomes more than I can handle. When my resources are meager, you give wisdom and power, comfort and strength. You are a constant source of hope, a safe place to pour out my heart. I sing for joy in you!

“Jesus, you are my bounty! Goodness and mercy—yours—chase along behind me, pursuing me continually. You are not content with trickling out your love. No, you let it gush over me like a waterfall! There is no end to your compassion, your forgiveness, your delight in me; no end to the good you intend for everyone who loves you. No one can surpass you in patience, understanding, wisdom, or compassion.
