Thursday After Ash Wednesday
Imagine a life where we can peel away our many disguises and let the world see us as we truly are: vulnerable, valuable, hurting, hoping, dreaming, believing, yearning for love and acceptance. Finally, we can be honest about our shortcomings, transparetn in our motives, and genuine with our love. To do this, we need to develop a sense of worth and a capacity for positive self-regard that comes deep from inside ourselves. To sustain this we msut avoid those who drage us down and be present to those people who build us up.Negative people criticize and compare us. It may come as a direct hit (you're stupid!) or be subltle (your sister always makes me proud). When we're attacked like this, our predominant thoughts become: "I'm not good enough" and "I can't." Positive people encourage us to be real and genuine. They remind us of our strengths, recognize our greatness, and encourage us to strive for what is best for us. They help us say: "I am good enough" and "I can do it."
As you begin this lenten season, claim your power. Say: "This is who I am. If you cannot accept me, leave me alone and move on."
